One of the worst environmental problems in Delhi is air pollution, largely from factories and vehicle exhaust. The World Health Organization reports Delhi as having the fourth worst Suspended Particulate Matter pollution of any city in the world. The number of cars and other motor vehicles has increased rapidly in the city over the past several years, which has added to air pollution. Also, many factories are powered by their own coal-fired power plants. As burning coal is one of the dirtiest ways of producing energy possible, this has led to increased air pollution as well.
