Studies have proven crab to be a very healthy food source with high nutrient levels and very low fat content. It also is a very low-risk seafood for mercury, despite being a bottom feeder, and contains much lower levels than some of the larger fish higher up in the food chain. Certain fish, notably flakier whitefish, are considered very healthy alternatives to eating beef, pork, or poultry, and when compared to crab have the shared benefits of very low calories and fat.
