Does nuclear energy cost more than renewable energy?

One of the major problems with relying on nuclear energy to provide a large share of our new energy needs in the future is that nuclear power is incredibly expensive. A study published earlier this year suggests that power from new nuclear plant would cost three times as much as current electricity rates in the US. In purely economic terms, investments in renewable energy clearly make more sense, as many renewable power sources are much cheaper. Even more impressive, saving energy through efficiency is only one tenth as expensive as the projected cost of energy from a new nuclear plant. So renewables and efficiency are not only better for the planet than nuclear power: they make better economic sense, too.
