does corn ethanol beat gasoline in GHG emissions?

Studies have shown that unfortunately corn ethanol does not lower GHG emissions. In fact, it may even be worse for the environment than gasoline. When totaling corn’s emissions, you need to take into account the fact that fuel burning vehicles are required to process the corn, and cut down the forests to create farmland (which multiplies the effect of the fuel burning). There is also the effect of the corn on the environment – any crop grown in large monocultures is going to require vast amounts of pesticides and antibiotics, and will deplete the soil it is on extremely quickly.
