No, an “endowment” is the giving of property or money to a college. The intent is for the principal to remain intact accruing interest over years so that the endowed money/property has more effect over time. An endowment might be given to a college for reasons relating to their environmental sustainability, but they are not tied together.
You might want to check out the green report cards in the second link; now that there is a rating system for college environmental impacts, there could be objective environmental endowments.
Actually it can have something to do with. Many liberal arts and smaller schools have significant endowments that help contribute to all aspects of their schools. many of these same schools have increasingly large sustainability programs.
