Does coal put the most mercury into the atmosphere?

    That is correct.

Although mercury is naturally found in the air and environment, coal burning accounts for the largest source of mercury emissions into the atmosphere. This is mostly sourced from power plants. Other minor, but still large sources of mercury arise from metal production and mining.
