Because nuclear power relies on steam-cooling, nuclear power uses more water than coal power. According to a study recently undertaken by the Australian government, nuclear power consumes 1500-2000 liters per megawatt hour compared with 300-600 liters for natural gas and 1000-1200 liters for coal and oil.
