Yes, China does produce more steel than the U.S. In fact, China’s production of steel has quadrupled in the last decade making it the largest manufacturer of steel in the world (Alliance for American Manufacturing, 2010). It not only makes more than the U.S., but more than the U.S., Japan, and Russia combined. It is also interesting to note that while China is responsible for producing one-third of the world’s steel, this makes the country the leading contributor to global warming because of all the carbon dioxide that comes from the steel-making (Alliance for American Manufacturing, 2010).
