Unfortunately, yes…and meat consumption in Asian countries has been on the rise in the past few years as well. When a country has a large population of meat-eaters to feed, factory-farming is the inevitable outcome. Japanese meat farming has increased quite a bit in the past 50 years. China is no different. As long as demand for meat continues in these countries, factory farms will probably continue to grow.
The citation that was provided in the last answer discusses this, but I also wanted to point out that China got a lot of heat for their factory farms recently because of diseases spreading. You all remember swine flu, right? Their factory farms are the ones blamed for the disease spreading so quickly.
