Does a Chevy volt get better gas mileage than the Nissan Leaf?

There is an article quoting the chief engineer of the Chevy volt that the car was “meeting the goal of 50 miles per gallon in so-called range-extending mode” as opposed to the 40 miles calculated at the electric range.  Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf is an all-electric vehicle so it doesn’t use gasoline and therefore does not have a potential gas mileage.
