There is an article quoting the chief engineer of the Chevy volt that the car was “meeting the goal of 50 miles per gallon in so-called range-extending mode” as opposed to the 40 miles calculated at the electric range. Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf is an all-electric vehicle so it doesn’t use gasoline and therefore does not have a potential gas mileage.
