Does the carbon in the atmosphere rise or stay pretty low?

Carbon dioxide molecules are heavier than oxygen and nitrogen molecules, so they do tend to stay relatively low in the atmosphere, or to sink into the ocean or soil or what have you. Most of our carbon emissions are in the form of carbon dioxide these days. Carbon monoxide is a little lighter than oxygen (and the same weight as nitrogen), so it tends to rise higher.
