At one point California did have a wolf population, existing in the coastal range from San Diego to Sacramento, but by 1924 they appear to have all disappeared. And though reintroduction efforts have been discussed, the ever-burgeoning human population, especially along the coast, would present possibly insurmountable difficulties.
