Does California have wolves?

At one point California did have a wolf population, existing in the coastal range from San Diego to Sacramento, but by 1924 they appear to have all disappeared. And though reintroduction efforts have been discussed, the ever-burgeoning human population, especially along the coast, would present possibly insurmountable difficulties.

The Wolf Mountain Sanctuary also has wolves you can visit: Wolf Mountain Sanctuary is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and proper management of wolves in the wild and in captivity. Our purpose and ultimate goal is to save these great, noble animals from extinction.
