For Ozone pollution, the New York-Newark-Bridgeport metro area is listed as the 16th worst. For highest year-round particle pollution, Bakersfield takes #2, and Los Angeles and Visalia are tied for #3. New York is not within the top 25 for pollution in this category.
For short-term particle pollution, Bakersfield is #1, Fresno is #2, and Los Angeles is #4. New York is #18. Therefore, for all three categories, California cities have worse air quality than New York does.
