Yes, California does have coal plants. California ranks 44th out of the 50 states in terms of coal-fired electric generating capacity and has 10 coal plants. The largest is ACE Cogeneration in San Bernandino, CA with a capacity of 108 Megawas and CO2 emissions of 991,000 tons (from 2007). Despite the coal plants, California is the most energy efficient state in the nation, using 40% less energy than the average American.
