Does burning plastic make it worse for the environment than if we buried it?

    yes. Inhaling plastic particles in the air can be hazardous to your health, as they may contain dioxin, a toxin that can give you cancer as well as impotence or asthma. Don’t burn plastics if you can.

    While landfilling is never a good option, plastic will be contained and less likely to cause further environmental damage.  Burning plastic releases dioxin, a known carcinogen.  Symptoms of dioxin exposure include: changes in hormone systems, alterations in fetal development, reduced reproductive capacity, and immunosuppression.  Dioxin also bioaccumulates and is a persistent organic pollutant.
