Burning gasoline in vehicles is one of the largest sources of dangerous pollutants in this country and many others. Automobile exhaust can contain a variety of compounds harmful to human health and air quality, including nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and benzene. Burning gasoline also releases large amounts of carbon dioxide – which while it doesn’t hurt you to breathe it, contributes to global warming by trapping heat in the atmosphere. Reducing our consumption of gasoline is one of the most important things we can do to help abate a variety of environmental problems.
