I have read that bamboo can grow quite quickly and thus it would need a lot of water and other nutrients for that (apparently the record for bamboo growing in the wild is 5ft in one day). However, a link from the gardener’s network, states that bamboo do not like to be wet. They require soil that drains well and will indicate that they need water if their leaves begin to dry up.
Bamboo is sensitive to too much water, and can develop a rot that will ruin the plant. The key is moderation. Water required can vary depending on location, as different atmospheres will react differently with soil saturation and water content.
