Apparently, bamboo can grow almost anywhere except arctic regions. There are more than 1500 species worldwide.
Bamboo can grow in diverse areas. There are more than 70 genera divided into about 1,000 species. They are found in many climates, including cold mountains to hot tropical regions. It does not grow everywhere, however. Major areas with no native bamboos include Europe and Antarctica. It does grow rather quickly: bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on Earth; it has been measured surging skyward as fast as 121 cm (47.6 inches) in a 24-hour period, and can also reach maximal growth rate exceeding one meter (39 inches) per hour for short periods of time.
