Sure. Under the grass part of the Astroturf, there is a rubberized layer which contains Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH). Of this class of about 100 different molecules also common to soot and smoke, 17 are classified as probably carcinogenic. The PAHs from the turf tend to leach into ground water and even reach the water table. This is why Sweden has banned such rubberized ground surfaces. High levels of lead have also been found in AstroTurf, although the company has agreed to reduce or eliminate lead content.
