In the summer of 2008, the first recreational hybrid boat was introduced. This boat was a 25-foot speedboat that ran on a combination of electric and diesel engines. Today, over one year later, hybrid boats are still rare but are on their way to becoming more common. Like with hybrid cars, it seems as though it may take some time for the concept to truly catch on. If hybrid boats do become more readily available the effects will hopefully be cleaner air and water and smaller amounts of fuel used in boating.
