Anesthesia is unlikely to cause harm to healthy individuals, especially if it is locally administered for a minor procedure.
General anesthesia, however, carries slightly more risk. The likelihood of experiencing complications under general anesthesia depends, as danibyrd mentioned, upon existing medical conditions and the type of procedure one is undergoing.
Uncommon complications include lung infection, stroke, cardiac arrest and death.
