No! Surprisingly, geothermal or hydrothermal vents can be found deep in the ocean that support a variety of life. All over the ocean floors, cracks in the Earth’s crust allows nutrients to seep out through these vents, which provides heat and nutrients for animals that gather around them. Several different species including crabs, shrimps, corals, tube worms and others can be found all over the oceans, clustered around these vents which derive no energy what so ever from the sun.
