Refraction occurs when a beam of light passes from one medium to another. If the wavelength of the beam changes, but the frequency remains constant, then the beam of light will refract, or change direction. Reflection occurs when the beam of light hits the medium at a 45 degree angle and reflects off it at 45 degree angle (making a 90 degree angle total). Only certain types of surfaces reflect certain types of lights.
