Does air temperature have a lot to do with water evaporation?

Yes. The hotter the air, the more quickly water will evaporate. Sunlight, though, is also a very important factor: direct sunlight heats the surface level of water quickly and causes rapid evaporation. Other factors that impact evaporation rate are atmospheric pressure and wind.
