Does air conditioning effect the power of a 4 cylinder engine more than an 8 cylinder?

Supposedly the notion of the air conditioner affecting the mileage and power of a car is a myth at speeds greater than 40 mph.  An 8-cylinder engine will produce more heat, but that heat won’t get into the car; it will also produce more power.  The air conditioning unit will require the same amount of power whether in a 4-cyl car or an 8-cyl car, so the surplus power from the 8-cylinder engine won’t allow the AC to drain as much on performance.
