Water access and quality is an issue in continents all over the globe; in fact, the United Nations that one third of all countries suffer from water stress issues. However, it also estimates that the most serious water pressures are concentrated on the African continent, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Experts and groups like the H2O Africa Foundation are trying to raise awareness not just about the quality of drinking water in Africa but about the water and sanitary conditions in slums and other impoverished locales. Many agree that addressing deep-rooted problems can help alleviate water pressures – ie, encouraging economic development, providing basic health care, promoting gender equality and expanding business opportunities.
