There has been discussion about the acai berry industry recently because of its increasing environmental impacts. Acai is grown on palms that naturally grow in the Brazilian rainforest. They have been collected and eaten naturally up until now, but because of the huge growth of the acai industry the demand has sky rocketed. With that increased demand comes more pesticide and mechanization or the growing process. There have also been forests that have been clear cut and replanted with acai, causing decreased biodiversity in these semi-deforested areas.
