It depends on the laptop you buy and exactly what you will be doing with it. Obviously it is going to take a bit more energy to power a larger screen, but for just everyday use, the energy consumption is going to be pretty comparable. For example, the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pro models currently on the market utilize the same battery and a majority of the same specs. On a full charge, they are both expected to get about 7 hours of use. The extra screen space will only be really noticeable when it comes to energy use if you are using it for very detailed graphics for long periods of time and even then, the difference is negligible. The type of battery and internal operations of the computer will be what really affects your energy use.
