I’ll try to add some insight that previous answers may not have conveyed. Wind versus solar isn’t a simple comparison, as both are plausible in certain contexts and locations. Not every location for solar panels would be appropriate for wind turbines, for example. From my experience observing the Cape Wind Project, it’s easy to underestimate the aesthetic and noise concerns of citizens (and danger to wildlife, such as birds). Solar energy is generally less obtrusive and can be affixed to roofs without much difficulty or sacrificing land use. However, a combination of the two is a great way to produce energy and ideally we’ll see the number of solar panels and wind turbines rise in the near future.
