Yes. BP estimated in 2007 that there is enough oil in reserves to sustian the world at its current oil consumpiton for 40 years. This is a generous length. So, yes, i think that we most definitely will have to resort to alternate fuels in the future.
Of course. While it is a long time before oil and other non-renewable fuels will literally run out, it is not long at all until the cost of those commodities will far exceed their ability to be burned as fuel.
