We already have ways of storing nuclear waste, mainly by sealing it inside containers and burying it deep under ground. The issue with storing nuclear waste is two fold. 1) We don’t know for sure what will happen to the containers being stored although theoretically it should be okay. 2) The larger issue facing the storage of nuclear waste is that no one wants to be the one near where the waste is buried – regardless of how safe it might actually be. Finally, developing a nuclear waste re-processing system will also allow us to recycle large portions of our nuclear waste into new fuel.
