Yeah, for the time being at least. We need a more efficient (less wasteful) energy transmission infrastructure so energy made at power plants can be delivered and utilized (a greater percent of what is generated can be delivered) instead of being lost along the way. So, for now, installing the smart grid appears to be the obvious choice. Perhaps in the future we will all be generating our own power, and there will be no need for a grid at all (just connections at a house to the power generating station up on the rooftop)… but it seems clear to me that we are going to be relying on the current technology (or, soon, the updated smart grid) for many years to come…
