This is a tough question to answer because biofuel is an umbrella term for a wide variety of fuels that have varying degrees of benefit. For example, biofuels that take advantage of bio-mass waste would probably have a positive impact on society; that waste isn’t going to any use and is generated regardless of whether we use it as fuel or not. On the other hand, biofuels like ethanol which is fed by the corn industry in the US, have had very damaging impacts, particularly on the price of food in developing countries. Additionally, in order to increase ethanol production, many countries have resorted to deforestation to create more land for growing ethanol-sourced crops like corn.
