That depends on how many birds they kill. There is some limited data that suggests that offshore wind turbines might be safer for birds than turbines on dry land, but nothing conclusive yet. The farther a wind turbine is from shore, the less likely it would be to impact birds. However, due to the fact that energy is lost when it is transmitted over long distances, it may not be economically feasible to put them too far from shore.
