Natural gas as a fuel source for cars, just like natural gas as a fuel for electricity or anything else, is a great ‘stopgap’ option. Of course, in an ideal world we would be best using solar and wind power to generate electricity, and electricity to power our vehicles. But we do not currently have the technology developed to make that an easy accomplishment – natural gas is much cleaner, and therefore more eco-friendly than oil-based gas. NGVs can be manufactured and sold much cheaper than hybrids or EVs. The link below is a great, in-depth article on NGVs.
No, it is still a fossil fuel and not a renewable resource. As mentioned above it is no more than a stop-gap and not even a better one than oil.
