I don’t know if they will ever go away, but interestingly, the Department of Energy was planning to establish a ban on the manufacturing and selling of incandescent bulbs. These new standards were set to become effective beginning in 2012, however Congress just recently put a block on ban, even with the brand new energy-efficient bulbs on the shelves in stores ready to be sold. I think that they will, eventually. People don’t like change, and many have the idea that CFL’s and LED’s all emit a blue-ish light, one that looks very industrial. This was the case, but technology has improved these lights which you can now purchase in “soft white.” The soft white shade looks exactly like the light emitted from incandescent bulbs. Once people realize how much money they can save by purchasing CFL’s and LED’s, the incandescent will no longer be used.
