Yes, the media has the ability to control public interest. Indirectly, they could influence environmental policy by bringing more attention to issues.
The media cannot create policy, but it can always do a better job informing and educating the public, and differentiating between issues that matter, and those that don’t. Unfortunately, as the some media outlets strive to be balanced, they give equal air time to those that fight for climate change, and those that do not believe global warming exists. The best and worst part of the U.S. is that everyone has a right to voice their opinion.
