The total of hybrids sold in 2010 is over 3% higher than 2009 for Jan-July. So people are still buying hybrids in the USA, and at higher rates than previously recorded.
But to answer your question, yes, I believe that gas prices have a large impact on the sales of hybrids, as well as other means of transport. Public transport, bicycles, scooters, motorcycles… the use and sale of many transportation forms depend on the price of gasoline, and price of the alternative form itself.
