While both have negative effects on the environment, volcanoes are probably worse for the environment. Earthquakes can cause tsunamis which no doubt effect ecosystems and whatnot, but overall they don’t cause the sort of environmental damage that volcanoes do unless coupled with some other factor. Earthquakes cause damage to manmade structures above all else, and have the potential to cause environmental disasters if those manmade structures are controlling dangerous chemicals. Volcanoes on the other hand emit an enormous amount of pollutants into the air along with the ash and molten lava that they produce. If only based on their singular effect on the environment, volcanoes win because of this pollution, but as we have seen in the past, earthquakes have the potential to be detrimental to the environment.
I think that a volcano would be worse for the environment because it burns down trees and kills any vegetation and and animals that get in the way.
