    I think that the answer, when it comes to solar energy, should always be to allocate more resources to research. It has been suggested that the energy harvested from one hour of sunlight could be used to power human civilization for an entire year! If that’s not efficient and sustainable, then I don’t know what is.

    In its budget proposal for the 2012 fiscal year, the Department of Energy requested $457,000,000 for solar energy research, more than it requested for research in any other form of renewable energy. This represents an 87% increase from its spending on solar energy in 2010. However, if we really want to gain ground in solar energy technology, we must dramatically increase the resources we put into its research– $457 million is simply not enough.
