Do you think that Congress is really listening to the voice of the American people and representing our interests in the climate bill?

Congress does listen, bu sometimes the american people don’t make their voices heard loud enough. That is why it is important to always let your elected officials know where you stand on issues important to you.

On climate change policy, entrenched industries like oil, coal and gas have a huge hold on policymakers.  Lobbyists from these industries outnumber green issue-area lobbyists 3 to 1.  So even while many citizens want stronger energy standards and a plan to prepare for climate change, corporate lobbyists have been succesful at retaining the status quo.  Whenever energy prices rise, the public tends to be less vocal about stronger environmental regulations, so that contributes to the lack of change as well.
