Yes and no. On the one hand, China is investing roughly twice as much as the United States is in clean sources of energy, and produces much more than their current output. If the States don’t stop sitting on their behinds, China is going to corner the green energy market and we won’t be able to compete.
On the other hand, in order to power its rapid economic growth, China also uses a huge amount of dirty energy. As of 2008 coal accounted for 75% of the country’s energy, and it’s now the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the world. Of course, this is not to say it’s more responsible for global warming than the United States and Europe are; given that we’ve been emitting for over a century, we’re far more to blame.
Suffice it to say that while China is definitely no green angel, it’s at least making much more of an effort than the United States is.
I would also have to say yes and no. The reason why it is, is becaue their strict population laws which have been getting more lenient of late will help with the country’s development if its overpopulation does not continue growing at such a rapid speed. In addition, it has been investing a lot into making advanced technology that can be used as alternative sources of energy.
