As far as doing everything to prevent the leak, I definitely don’t think that they did everyhting in their power to stop the leak from happening. There are reports that they knew that there was the potential for the explosion that caused the leak, but they did nothing to prevent it. After the leak started, there weren’t that many options available to stop the leak. More people than just BP were trying to find a way to stop the leak once it had already started, and it still took over 90 days to stop, so I don’t think that they can be blamed for a delay once it had already started. However, I think that they could have done more to prevent the leak.
