Do you think that the addition of plumbing has helped the environment?

Absolutely.  Plumbing allows the collection of human waste and wastewater, to then be treated before release into water streams to be diluted in the environment making it less harmful on the environment.  Before plumbing, human waste was thrown onto streets, directly into fresh water streams, washed into the ocean, and all of this was untreated.  Untreated human waste has the potential to poison water sources and is harmful to humans, water, vegetation, and animals.
