Do you need a special permit or license to try and climb mount Everest?

    Yes, you do need a special permit to climb Mount Everest.  These can be quite costly.  They can be anywhere between $10,000 to $25,000 a person, depending on how many people are in your climbing group. 

    Most people go through a trekking agency to obtain their permits from the Nepal Ministry and Administration.  These agencies may promise you a permit space, but double check your name is on the expedition list.  The permits should be filed at least 6 months prior to your trek.
