At least in some cases wood bikes are susceptable to wood-eating critters.
Caring for a well made wood bike will simply require the same maintenance as any other bike. Keeping your chain and gears oiled, new tires etc. Renovo is one of the leaders in making wood bikes. Their frames are made completely from hardwoods and claim to be able to last much longer than a steel or aluminum frame. They are treated so as not to be negatively affected by the rain and are built to truly last. The wooden frames claim to absorb more shock and remain stronger than conventional bike frames without any special maintenance. If your bike is more of a raw wood that is not as finished or treated, keeping it oiled so it does not crack would probably be a wise choice.
