No. In order to be certified to instal solar panels, one must receive training, but a college degree is not required. You must attend a few years of trade school in order to receive the specialized training required.
Clean Solar Living suggests that to be a solar panel installer, one should have a state ceritfication as an electrician, and be knowledgable in Universal Building Codes. Having the backgound in electrical work is considered the most important aspect of the training but solar panel installers are not required to have a college degree. Solar Energy International offers online training for those interested in becoming installers in California and Arizona.
