Because yoga teaches balance and peace, it is natural that yogis might have a connection with the environment. It is all about internal awareness, which many yoga practice extend to outer awareness of the environment. However, this is secondary to yoga’s focus on the internal. Yoga teaches its patrons to be more aware of sensations in the body, and expert yogis can mentally control body processes that most of us consider automatic, such as heart rate and skin temperature. Some weight loss programs recommend yoga to help dieters be more aware of hunger and the body’s need for food so they will be more likely to eat only when hungry rather than when bored or emotional.
