do woodchips keep your plants from freezing?

Using woodchips, or “Mulching” is a common practice among gardners to keep the dirt from drying out and dropping too much below 32 degrees. You can’t really help outdoor plants from freezing if it gets too cold. As a side-note, typically it is not prudent to use more than 4 inches of woodchips as this may prevent water and air from getting to the roots.
