Solar panels and wind turbines have roughly the same life span. They last about 20-30 years before they need replacement. I would guess that is possibly similar to the time span of generating much more efficient technology that transforms sunlight or mechanical energy into electricity, so by the time they need to be replaced, you could get a significant upgrade.
If you look at solar panel sites they say their product lasts the longest and ditto for wind turbine companies. The best thing to do would be to find out what is best for your area. If you get a lot of snow, you might not want to use solar panels because you’ll have to go and scrape the ice off it. If you live somewhere that doesn’t get much wind, solar panels could be better.
